Sexy Socks
Was gonna post this yesterday but Blogger was down "due to planned maintenance. Blogger apologizes for any inconvience this may cause".
Do people take their socks off during sex?
That had nothing to do with my rant... just a random thought.
I don't get the gay pride stuff. Like the parades and such. Do straight people have "I'm straight" or "In and Proud" ( yes I realize that doesn't make sense... but deal with it) parades? If so, I've missed out. Why does it need to be flaunted so? Straight people don't go to the extreme to make sure people know of their sexual orientation, I don't understand why people of the opposite orientation have to. What is the obsession with people knowning every intimate detail of your life? As far as I'm concerned, a person's sexual orientation is no one's damn business. It'd be like walking around with a sign sharing one's favorite brand of condom with the world. You know, I think some do it just for the attention... the attention they claim to hate. I don't think people would be "discriminated" against as much as they claim to be if people would just shut the hell up about it and stop blabbing it to the world. No wonder people get angry with it, its flaunted in their faces, symbols that 100 years ago were signs of God's provision and promises have been made into signs of sexual orientation.
I have nothing against anyone. I don't just about this. Not at all. If you knew me, you would know this to be even more true. But I do not understand. Maybe its just that I'm a private person and I don't understand sharing so much about my life with the world, heck I could be dying from cancer and not even tell my roomate...
Anyways, I guess that's just my opinion. Sorry if you didn't sign up for the opinionated part of my blog, small as it often is.
But I must go do something... not sure what yet but something! :)

Let me start off by saying I'm straight, and therefore may not know whereof I speak. The way I see it is that straight culture is purvasive in western culture, but gay culture is still seen a out of the ordinary and hadn't received much attention prior to about 50 years ago. A guy and a girl walking down the street holding hands doesn't draw attention; two guys holding hands is the source of stares and often even jeers.
Gay Pride parades are a reminder that even the scant acceptance that gays have received in the past few decades has been a recent and half-hearted effort on the part of the straight status quo. Despite the American Bill of Rights, the Canadian Charter, and the European Union human rights acts, gays aren't viewed by society as equal.
The parades also serve to commemorate the victories that the gay rights movement has had over the past years. Homo- and bi-sexuality is no longer, for example, criminal (with the abolition of sodomy laws), a sourse of job discrimination (human rights), etc.
You're right, sexual orientation is no ones business, but how often do you see a straight couple kissing in a park, or holding hands over dinner? Shouldn't gay people have the same opportunity? How can they when gay lifestyles are still looked down on by most of society? How can society be swayed except through drawing attention to the subject? Society likes the status quo and will never change unless something forces them to, something that keeps the issue in public sight until it is resolved. Gay pride parades help the issue stay high-profile, and as a result remain a vital tool in the fight for equality for homosexual people.
Or at least, that's how I see it. I've been wrong often before.
I guess you can't get the desired attention without getting the unwanted. As usual, I'm unable to say anything to a Dave comment but that you are right.
I'm a negative person, I see the negative and can only think of ways to avoid it. Guess I tend to only see the negative attention that such activities promote and want to avoid it.
My opinions all depend on the day it seems. I think its silly one day and then the next it seems like a great idea if it'll give people the rights and equality they deserve.
Yeah...
